Complications of overactive bladder

People who suffer from urinary incontinence episodes tend to develop coping skills. For some people, that means carrying an extra set of clothes in case of an accident. Others try to drink fewer liquids while at the same time putting themselves in danger of dehydration. Some people only go to places where they can quickly access a bathroom, while others never dare to leave their homes, quickly becoming isolated and cut off from friends and family.

The consequences of overactive bladder are not limited to reduced quality of life alone. They can also negatively impact daily activities resulting in sleep disturbances, depression, and urinary tract and skin infections.1 In some cases, the disturbed flow and leakage of urine can result in kidney infections, which can lead to kidney failure.1
